Advanced Research Centers
Advanced Research Centers will serve as vital research centers that will conduct world-class research in a concentrated and specifically focused area.

College Applied Research & Technology Center Program
Encourages greater collaboration between private industry and colleges toward development and application of new technologies.

Center for Advanced Technology Program
Since its establishment in 1983, the CAT Program has supported university-industry collaboration in research, education and technology transfer, with a strong focus on helping New York businesses gain a competitive technological edge.

Regional Technology Development Centers
The Regional Technology Development Centers (RTDC) are located across New York State and provide direct assistance to New York companies in a variety of ways.

Through two state programs – the Technology Development Organization (TDO) Program and the Industrial Technology Extension Service (ITES) Program – and a complementary Federal program – the Manufacturing Extension Partnership (MEP), the RTDCs provide entrepreneurial and business assistance as well as financial, venture capital, and grant information to companies across our state. One of the strengths of the RTDC network is its affiliation with the US Department of Commerce’s MEP program which enables the RTDCs to draw upon the expertise within the national MEP system’s 400 local outreach centers.

The centers also play a key role in helping new and emerging businesses move a new technological breakthrough from the research lab to the marketplace as well as providing education and training, helping companies implement best practices and new technologies into their business processes, and providing business planning and quality control guidance. The centers' expertise helps New York's companies maintain their leadership roles in today's competitive business environments.

Strategically Targeted Academic Research Centers
Strategically Targeted Academic Research Centers will serve as world-class academic research facilities that offer a dynamic combination of state-of-the-art facilities, cutting-edge technology and the world's most sought after academic and scientific talent.

Science and Technology Law Center
The New York State Science and Technology Law Center advises Centers for Advanced Technology, Strategically Targeted Academic Research Centers, Advanced Research Centers, Centers of Excellence, Generating Employment Through New York Science Centers, and other academic institutions and NYSTAR on technology-related legal issues. The Law Center conducts research on issues relating to the work being performed at these Research Centers to increase awareness and understanding of such issues as the protection and commercialization of intellectual property, technology transfer practices, patents, copyright and trademark law, and licensing agreements. In addition, the Law Center will make relevant information available to startup and early stage technology companies outside of university settings.

Centers of Excellence
The Centers of Excellence initiative will bring thousands of well-paying, high-tech jobs to New York State, while further enhancing the State’s leadership role in the fields of high technology and biotechnology. The Centers of Excellence focus on critical emerging technologies that are anticipated to become major high-tech growth areas.
