Faculty Development Program
  • Request for Proposals Information
  • A central element of NYSTAR's mission is the recognition that New York's world-class public and private research universities and academic centers can be powerful economic development vehicles. New York already is an international leader in technology-related academic research, and the Faculty Development Program is designed to further strengthen this position.

With more than 300 institutions of higher learning — the second highest in the nation — and home to more than 360,000 scientists and engineers, New York is already an intellectual capital. In fact, close to 10 percent of the nation's PhDs are in New York, along with nearly 200 members of the National Academy of Sciences.

NYSTAR's goal is to attract distinguished faculty from throughout the world to New York's academic research centers by providing additional support to leading researchers already working in New York's academic research centers. In turn, top scientists and scholars bring in more financial support for research and draw the best junior researchers and graduate students. Research conducted by topflight scientists also generates the greatest interest from the business and investment communities.

The NYSTAR Faculty Development Program assists institutions of higher education in New York State in the recruitment and retention of leading entrepreneurial research faculty in science and technology fields with strong commercial potential.

Combined with NYSTAR's other programs, the NYSTAR Faculty Development Program spurs technology-based research and economic development in New York well into the 21st Century; promotes national and international research collaboration and innovation; and better leverages State funding with investments from the federal government, foundations, businesses, venture capital firms, and others.
